Action Man Ceremonial Life Guard Original Art Cover Painting by Walt Howarth

This original signed painting by Walt Howarth of an Action Man Ceremonial Life Guard is a mixed media painting on an unframed water colour art board. Measures approximately 12” x 17”. Affixed to the top right corner of the painting is a thick paper square containing the official Action Man logo, which leads us to believe this may be an art cover mockup for an Action Man annual. Based on subject matter, we estimate this was painted in the mid 1970’s.

WALT HOWARTH was born in Bolton, Lancashire in January 1, 1928. His career as an artist spanned 60 years, and included artwork for the early TV themed British Annual covers for Doctor Who, as well as The Lone Ranger, Dempsey and Bonanza. He was one of the artist accredited for working on Disney characters, and in his latter years, his works included private commissions for fans of James Bond, The Saint, The Avengers, Danger Man, Tarzan, Batman, Bewitched, The Beverly Hillbillies, The Munsters and other. He continued painting until 2006, two years before he passed in 2008. A much beloved artist, his illustrations remain highly collectible.
